The management team of GardenGenetics™ combines almost 20 years of professional management experience in contract scientific research, with more than a decade of professional ornamental plant breeding experience. The depth of this hands-on business and technical experience enables us to manage your contract research projects with unsurpassed professional and confidential performance. Comparative and confidential trials

GardenGenetics™ provides secure, confidential research trials at our central Pennsylvania facility.  Our 20 acre research farm has been maintained under organic / sustainable conditions for the past 10 years.  Although we do not intend to pursue formal certification, we will continue to manage the research farm in a sustainable fashion.  We can trial your new releases, along with competing varieties, in either public or isolated locations, and under a range of environmental and cultural conditions.

GardenGenetics™ provides both greenhouse and field trials, for both annual and perennial crops, and for edible as well as ornamental crops.  Confidential trials are conducted in isolation, with physical and visual barriers used to isolate and separate these plots.  Field irrigation is readily available from our deep groundwater wells.

Germplasm enhancement and development

GardenGenetics™ provides a broad range of contract research services to the commercial plant breeding community. If you have a reason to outsource part or all of your internal breeding program, GardenGenetics™ can provide you with a confidential and efficient mechanism to extend your resources.

Preliminary or “rough” breeding

"Rough breeding" --- the early stages of the breeding and development process --- can be effectively outsourced to GardenGenetics™, enabling your internal development resources to focus their energies on final product development, or "finish breeding". Let us make the difficult and repetitive hybridizations for you, delivering a line ready for your breeders to take into final selections. GardenGenetics™ can enable you to expand your internal resources without the need to hire and maintain additional breeders as part of your staff.

Inbred development and improvement

GardenGenetics™ can help you better utilize your internal resources by developing new inbred lines for you to use in further hybrid flower or vegetable development. This effective use of GardenGenetics™ as a contract resource can enable you to get new products to market faster, or to turn over your existing product lines, without needing to maintain an extensive inbred development program. We can develop proprietary inbreds for you under contract and confidentiality, beginning with your existing germplasm. Your current research organization can then use those inbreds to make and test experimental hybrids for market.

Development of novel phenotypes

In ornamental horticulture, novel phenotypes are especially desirable, whether the novelty is a unique leaf color (variegated, gold, purple); a unique habit (dwarf, compact, trailing, pendulous); a unique flower color (lighter or darker; picotee or reverse picotee; splashed or speckled) or a unique flower form (double, fringed, quilled or tubular).

GardenGenetics™ has many tools available to elicit these and other novel phenotypes, and may employ any or all of them in our pursuit of horticultural novelties.
