Next week, from Wednesday 3 November through Friday 5 November, GardenGenetics and Longwood Gardens will be co-hosting the 2010 Independent Plant Breeders Conference (IPBC). This biennial informal event is designed to be an open yet private forum in which the world's independent plant breeders can get together to discuss common issues (e.g., intellectual property protection and licensing); to discuss specialized plant breeding techniques (e.g., embryo rescue, interspecific hybridization, mutation breeding, polyploid induction); to learning about how to apply modern molecular plant breeding technologies such as marker-assisted selection to their breeding programs.
As of today, there are almost 100 registrants for the Conference, in addition to the 25+ speakers and panelists on the agenda. We are expecting the final total to be in excess of 150 active participants. We expect the discussions to be absolutely wonderful.
REGISTRATION UPDATE: 5 days before the IPBC begins, we are over 150 participants (registrants, speakers, panelists). If you plan to attend, please register ASAP !
The IPBC as a forum is private and confidential. No recordings. No photographs. The intellectual property content of the Conference is to be retained only by the participants' memories and hand-written notes. Dissemination of the information provided is at the discretion of the individual speakers and panelists, but such information is entirely for the individual use of the participants.
The IPBC is also a plant-free forum. Displaying your plant invention at the IPBC can have a negative impact on the future protection of that invention. We strongly recommend that you simply avoid that risk by leaving your newest plant invention at home.

As of today, housing at the Conference hotels has become quite limited. We are also approaching the capacity limits of the facilities at Longwood. If you intend to come to the 2010 IPBC, we strongly recommend that you register NOW. Walk-up registrations may not be available next week.
We hope to see you at Longwood next week!
