Research TECHNICIANS

Job Description

These temporary positions are seasonal, full-time positions. We need your help from May 2010 through August 2010. We expect there will be full-time on-going Research Technician positions available beginning in September 2010 which we hope to fill from our seasonal employees.

We also anticipate a number of part-time technician positions to be available during the traditional academic year, if you have available transportation.

Internships

We are looking for interns for the summer of 2010 whose primary responsibilities will involve managing outdoor vegetable trials. We are also looking for an intern with an interest in entomology to run a project examining pollinator activity and preferences in some of the crops we are breeding.

This are real internships. There will be several “project” activities to choose from to fulfill the necessary internship requirements of your university. You should expect our active involvement in your internship project.

Day to day activities will include watering, nutrient management, pest monitoring and data collection. Candidates must be able to work independently and show the flexibility required to work at a start-up company. Opportunities for leadership will be available as some of our summer labor consists of high school students.

The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and be willing to work in adverse weather. The work week is generally 40 hours, paid at $10.00 per hour, though some overtime or weekend work may be necessary depending
on need.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have (or be pursuing) a BS in Horticulture or other Applied Agricultural field, as well as 2-4 years experience. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and be willing to work in adverse weather. Work days and workday hours may be negotiable, but long days and weekend work will occur on a regular basis. A Pennsylvania driver's license will be required.

Job Location

GardenGenetics^® research farm, Bellefonte, PA 16823 United States. When hired, successful candidates for full-time on-going positions will be expected to relocate to within 30 min of
the farm.
